Time Is Not Our Own (Catterall)

(Adapted from a poem by Martyn Sutton)

1)

I give you minutes, when I should give you hours
I send excuses, instead of sending flowers
We meet in secret, when we should meet in style
Exchanging glances, when we should be sharing smiles

2)

Rented rooms … restaurants and zoos
But no photographs … no birthday cards to choose
Fleeting meetings … another secret rendezvous
There’s so much time I’d like to spend with you
Spend with you, spend with you

3)

I’m so sorry our time is not our own
So sorry, but we really should have known
With a love like ours … with a love like ours
With a love like ours … time is not our own
Time is not our own

(Instrumental section)

4)

I give you moments, I should’ve given years
We meet with smiles, but always part in tears
You ring my office, but you can’t ring me at home
Should be together, but always stay alone

5)

Railway stations … platforms in the rain
Time for leaving … to say goodbye again
Unwritten letters … so much left unsaid
All those dreams we had … frozen
Inside my head … frozen

6)

I’m so sorry our time is not our own
So sorry, but we really should have known
With a love like ours … with a love like ours
With a love like ours … time is not our own
Time is not our own, time is not our own.
