Holding the Baby (Kemp)

1)

Well I was just left holding the baby, and feeling very small
Well I was stood there thinking that maybe you would come back after all
Yes I was happy just for a moment, the one I spent with you
But I was just left holding the baby, ‘cos I never dreamed what you’d do.

M1)

I didn’t even know your name
We danced around the floor like I’ve never done before in my life
You know that it’s an awful shame
So why d’you have to go before we’d time to say hello or goodbye?
Goodbye.

2)

Well I was left right there on the dance floor, talking to myself
Because the girl with whom I’d been dancing walked off with somebody else
So I was just left holding the baby, it happens from time to time
And so I walked back home on my ownsome, but I took you home in my mind.

M2)

I didn’t even know your name (as M1)

Bridge) Well I was just so sad, all of the night
I felt so bad, when you disappeared out of sight
No no, it isn’t a dream
It may seem strange but you know what I mean

3)

Well I was left right there on the dance floor, as sick as I could be
Because you left and gave me no warning, now how could you do this to me?
So I was just left holding the baby, and sorry for myself
I guess I’ll get back where I belong now; I’m climbing back up on the shelf.

(Instrumental section)

(end)

Goodbye, goodbye - If that’s the way you wanna do it,
Good bye, goodbye - guess I’ll just have to leave you to it
Goodbye, goodbye - If that’s the way you wanna play it,
Good bye, goodbye - guess I’ll just have to let you say it.
If that’s the way it’s gonna go.
